GIF to WebP Converter
GIF is capped at 256 colours per frame, which is why photographs saved as GIF look blotchy and banded. Convert a still GIF to a modern format here, in your browser.

Best suited to still GIFs — see the note on animation below.
- 01
Add your GIF files
Drag them onto the panel or browse for them. Animated GIFs are accepted, but read the note about frames in the questions below first.
- 02
Choose an output format
PNG keeps the transparency GIF supports, JPG gives you the smallest photo, WebP sits between the two.

Convert and download
Everything runs locally. One file downloads directly; a batch comes back as a ZIP.
Convert another format
Every converter here runs in your browser and needs no account.
- Convert PNGTurn heavy PNG screenshots and exports into JPG, WebP or AVIF without leaving your browser. Batch convert, download as a ZIP, and keep every file on your own machine.
- Convert JPGMove JPG and JPEG photos into PNG, WebP or AVIF in the browser — stop further quality loss, or cut the file size well below the original. Batch convert to a ZIP.
- Convert WebPTurn WebP files into PNG or JPG that older software, print workflows and upload forms will actually accept. Runs in your browser; batches download as a ZIP.
- Convert AVIFTurn AVIF downloads into WebP, PNG or JPG that Photoshop, Office and older phones will open. Transparency is kept, and the batch converts in your browser.
- Convert BMPCut uncompressed BMP scans and Windows exports down to a fraction of their size as WebP, PNG or JPG. A 24-bit bitmap loses nothing going to PNG.
- Convert HEICConvert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG, PNG or WebP in your browser. Batch convert a whole camera roll to a ZIP, with nothing uploaded and no Windows codec to buy.
- Convert NEFTurn a Nikon NEF into a shareable JPG, PNG or WebP without Lightroom or NX Studio — by extracting the full-size JPEG Nikon embedded, not developing the raw.
- Convert CR2Open a Canon CR2 as JPG, PNG or WebP with no Digital Photo Professional. It lifts out the embedded full-size JPEG, so Picture Styles survive. CR3 is not supported.
- Convert ARWSony ARW from an Alpha, ZV or FX body to JPG, PNG or WebP without Imaging Edge. It reads the camera's embedded JPEG, so compressed and uncompressed both work.
Questions about converting GIF
The colour limit, and what happens to animation.
What happens to an animated GIF?
- You get the first frame only, as a still image. This converter draws each file to a canvas, and a canvas holds exactly one frame — so animation is not preserved and there is no way for it to be. If you need a moving result, convert to an animated format with a dedicated video or GIF tool instead.
Why does my GIF look banded or blotchy?
- GIF stores at most 256 colours per frame. A photograph contains far more, so saving one as GIF forces a harsh reduction and you get visible bands across skies and gradients. Converting to PNG or JPG will not bring back the discarded colours — it only stops the problem getting worse.
Does GIF transparency survive the conversion?
- It does if you convert to PNG or WebP, both of which have a proper alpha channel. Converting to JPG flattens transparent areas onto white, because JPG has nowhere to store them. Note that GIF transparency is a single on/off bit per pixel, so edges were already hard rather than smoothly faded.
