BMP to WebP Converter
BMP writes raw uncompressed pixels straight to disk, so a photo that would be 2 MB as a JPG arrives as 25 MB. Converting is almost always worth it, and it happens here in your browser.

How to convert a BMP
The biggest size win of any format on this site — usually by an order of magnitude.
- 01
Add your BMP files
Drag them in or pick them from disk. BMP files are large, so a batch may take a moment to read.
- 02
Choose an output format
PNG for a lossless copy that is still dramatically smaller, JPG or WebP when you want the file as small as it will go.
- 03
Convert and download
Conversion runs on your machine, so even very large BMP files never get uploaded anywhere. Batches download as a ZIP.
Convert another format
Every converter here runs in your browser and needs no account.
- Convert PNGTurn heavy PNG screenshots and exports into JPG, WebP or AVIF without leaving your browser. Batch convert, download as a ZIP, and keep every file on your own machine.
- Convert JPGMove JPG and JPEG photos into PNG, WebP or AVIF in the browser — stop further quality loss, or cut the file size well below the original. Batch convert to a ZIP.
- Convert WebPTurn WebP files into PNG or JPG that older software, print workflows and upload forms will actually accept. Runs in your browser; batches download as a ZIP.
- Convert AVIFTurn AVIF downloads into WebP, PNG or JPG that Photoshop, Office and older phones will open. Transparency is kept, and the batch converts in your browser.
- Convert GIFConvert still GIFs to PNG, JPG or WebP in your browser and escape the 256-colour limit. Batch convert to a ZIP — animated GIFs give you the first frame.
- Convert HEICConvert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG, PNG or WebP in your browser. Batch convert a whole camera roll to a ZIP, with nothing uploaded and no Windows codec to buy.
- Convert NEFTurn a Nikon NEF into a shareable JPG, PNG or WebP without Lightroom or NX Studio — by extracting the full-size JPEG Nikon embedded, not developing the raw.
- Convert CR2Open a Canon CR2 as JPG, PNG or WebP with no Digital Photo Professional. It lifts out the embedded full-size JPEG, so Picture Styles survive. CR3 is not supported.
- Convert ARWSony ARW from an Alpha, ZV or FX body to JPG, PNG or WebP without Imaging Edge. It reads the camera's embedded JPEG, so compressed and uncompressed both work.
Questions about converting BMP
Why the files are so big, and what you lose by shrinking.
Why are BMP files so enormous?
- Because BMP applies no compression at all in its common form — it stores three or four bytes for every single pixel, exactly as they sit in memory. A 4000 x 3000 photo is around 36 MB before you have added anything. Every other format on this page compresses, which is why the saving is so dramatic.
Will I lose quality converting BMP to PNG?
- Not a pixel. PNG is lossless, so the image is reproduced exactly while typically landing at a fraction of the size. If you want a faithful archive copy of a BMP, PNG is the format to choose; pick JPG or WebP only when you are willing to trade some detail for a much smaller file.
Why can't I convert other formats INTO BMP here?
- No browser can write BMP from a canvas, and this converter only offers formats it can genuinely produce. Offering BMP as an output would mean handing you a PNG with the wrong extension, which would break the moment anything tried to read it.
